Do Not Fear Coronavirus

We’ve been watching the markets crashing, businesses shuttering doors, health care workers overwhelmed, people losing their jobs, getting sick, and dying. Now we’re being told this all could last for months. With this ominous foreboding hovering over our world like something from a Hollywood doomsday movie, how exactly does God want us to walk through this?

It’s crystal clear from Scripture, God commands and offers a life of fearlessness and peace:

"So we can confidently say, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’" - Hebrews 13:6

“...do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” - Philippians 4:6

“...I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” - Philippians 4:11

These truths are telling us there are indestructible reasons for not being afraid of what Coronavirus can do to your health, your business, your family, the economy, Western Civilization or to history as we know it. But here’s the million dollar question: to whom is this supernatural peace and contentment offered?

The answer comes to us in a beautiful, power-packed verse in Romans 8:28:

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

Who is it that should enjoy the fearlessness and peace that absolutely everything around this virus is working together for your eternal good? The answer is: those who love God and those who are called according to his purpose.

These are those who can live with fearlessness and peace because the true reality of the matter is neither distress, tribulation, persecution, coronavirus, economic collapse, total anarchy, nor the end of the world can separate us from the love of Christ (Rom. 8:38-39). This unshakable peace offered to those who love the Lord is a true treasure.

"But what do I do if I’ve been crippled by fear?"

The test of the foundations of your life is fear. Fear exposes faulty foundations. So this global crisis is really a gift from God. While there’s still time, we have opportunity to discover whether the pillars holding up our lives are immovable or brittle. Our fear is evidence our lives are propped up by faulty foundations.

Through this crisis, then, God is asking you a question: do you love me more than anything (Matt. 10:37; John 21:16)?
